Dog Behaviour Support for Reactive, Anxious and Overexcited Dogs
You love your dog, but life together isn't always easy.
Walks may have become stressful, your dog might struggle around other dogs or people, or perhaps they seem unable to settle even after a busy day.
Behaviour • Communication • Wellbeing
“Louie is happy, confident and back to his normal self. I couldn’t recommend these ladies more.”— Louie’s guardianRead more real stories
You’ve started managing more and enjoying less.
Maybe you’re constantly scanning ahead on walks, crossing roads to avoid other dogs or worrying about what might happen if someone gets too close.
Perhaps your dog barks, lunges or growls when something worries them. They might freeze around unfamiliar people, struggle with traffic or seem frightened of situations you wish they could enjoy.
Or maybe they’re incredibly friendly and full of energy, but the pulling, jumping and constant excitement have made everyday life exhausting.
You’ve tried the advice, watched the videos and changed your routines. Some things might have helped for a while, but you’re still left wondering why your dog is struggling.
And somewhere along the way, the life you imagined sharing with them has started to feel very different.
You don’t need another list of things you’re doing wrong. You need someone who can help you make sense of what’s happening.

Behaviour is communication.
Two dogs can behave in exactly the same way for completely different reasons.
One might be frightened, another frustrated. Some dogs are struggling with excitement, physical discomfort or experiences that have left them feeling unsafe.
The behaviour we see is only part of the picture.
“Obedient is not always the same as safe.”
Change more than what you can see
I take time to understand your dog’s communication, physical wellbeing, nervous system, past experiences, environment, routines, natural needs and relationships.
We look at what may be affecting how they feel and respond, then make changes that suit the dog in front of us.
Your experiences matter here too. I want you to understand what we’re working towards, why it matters and how you can support your dog in everyday situations.
Because the relationship you share is just as important as the changes you’re hoping to see.
This is the heart of the REGAIN Method™.
Whole Dog Understanding
Health, history, environment, natural needs, communication and relationships can all affect how well your dog copes with everyday life.
Nervous System Regulation
Understanding when your dog is becoming overwhelmed, shutting down or struggling to recover helps us support them before everything spills over.
Changing Emotional Responses
Choice, predictability, pacing and co-regulation create the safety needed for new responses.
Individualised Integration
Support is shaped around the individual dog, their guardian and the life they share.
What we’re working towards
Imagine enjoying the little things together again.
A walk where you’re not bracing yourself for every dog that appears.
Watching your dog take their time sniffing and exploring, rather than rushing from one thing to the next.
Seeing them rest more easily at home in the evenings.
Noticing that something which once worried them doesn’t take quite as long to recover from.
Recognising their early signs of discomfort and knowing when to offer support or create space.
Every dog’s progress looks different, and there may be difficult days along the way. What matters is giving your dog more opportunities to cope, recover and enjoy life, and helping you feel more at ease alongside them.

Real stories
Real experiences. Meaningful progress.
Every dog who comes to Asphodel has their own history, personality and challenges. Their stories show what individual support looks like in practice, and the changes their guardians have noticed.
“We’ve seen noticeable improvements in our dog’s focus, confidence and ability to stay regulated around other dogs.”
“We got our first family holiday with the dogs. We honestly never thought this would be possible.”
About Jess
Hi, I’m Jess, a trauma-informed dog reactivity specialist in South Shields & South Tyneside
And I care about the dog behind the behaviour and the person beside them.
I’m the founder of Asphodel Canine Guidance and creator of The REGAIN Method™.
My journey began in professional dog walking, where working closely with dogs of different personalities, needs and experiences led me to explore canine behaviour and wellbeing in greater depth.
I hold an Ofqual-regulated Level 3 Award in Canine Care, Behaviour and Welfare, alongside professional qualifications and education in progressive dog rehabilitation, reactivity, fear and body language.
Today, I bring that knowledge and hands-on experience together through a trauma-informed, relationship-led approach.
I care deeply about helping dogs feel more comfortable in the world, but I also know how much their struggles can affect the people who love them.
I want you to feel listened to, involved and supported throughout our work together.
